Instead of soda I’ve been starting to drink fruit juice- orange, pineapple, and orange- mango. I’ll usually finish a pint at work every day. The brand I drink says it’s 100% juice and has added vitamins and minerals, but I notice it’s got a lot of sugar. Is this still a good replacement for soda?

Good for you for switching out soda. That’s a step in the right direction. Although fruit juice is delicious and has a bunch of vitamins and minerals, I would not drink it very often due to its sugar content.

If you’re trying to lose weight, I’d suggest you don’t drink fruit juice at all. Even though the label says 100% fruit juice and there’s no sugar added, as you correctly pointed out, even it still contains a boatload of sugar.

In fact, the pint (16 ounces) you’re downing each day contains about 55 grams of total carbs with about 40- 50 coming from pure sugar. Ouch. You’re much better off drinking non- caloric beverages when on a diet. Save the calories for eating whole foods and you’ll be better off.

As far as whole fruit is concerned, unless you’re on an ultra strict diet, you can still have a small amount of certain fruits like berries. Berries contain antioxidants that provide a myriad of benefits. They also contain fiber, which slows down the digestion of carbohydrate.

What do you think of that diet where you eat certain foods based on your blood type?

 

I’ve always been told to get a six- pack you need to do a lot of abs work with high reps. Would you agree?
